Alexa Echo Setup Help

The range of voice assistants Amazon Echo will surely surprise this year in the USA, especially after the release of other smart speakers. And as often, each new product brings its share of dysfunctions.
Here are some of the issues you may encounter in the Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Tap, and Echo Show, with suggestions for solving them.

The Wi-Fi connection is inconsistent or nonexistent

The connectivity status of the Amazon Echo is indicated by the power LED located at the bottom back of the device. A white light indicates that the reception is good and orange indicates that n 'there is no Wi-Fi.
If you experience intermittent connectivity or a lack of WiFi connection with your Amazon Echo, here is what to try.

  • First of all, follow the usual good old procedure: restart your modem and turn off and on your Echo.
     

  • If that doesn't help and the rest of the network is working fine, you can consider repositioning your Echo away from devices that could interfere with the signal.
     

  • You can also reduce congestion on your Wi-Fi network by removing unused devices from the network.
     

  • If you have a dual-band modem, you may have two networks installed. Try switching from 2.4GHz to 5GHz or vice versa. 5GHz promises less interference, better speeds and a more stable and often less crowded connection.
     

  • Alternatively, 2.4GHz may be better for devices that may be further from the router, especially if the signal has to pass through walls.
     

  • Move your Echo to a higher surface, such as a shelf, to avoid signal interference.

Alexa does not connect to other devices

One of Alexa's many talents is its ability to act as a voice-activated smart home center for a wide range of devices from manufacturers such as Philips, SmartThings or Nest. However, configuration and connection is not always easy.

  • First, make sure your device is actually compatible with the Echo. It may need a bridge like the SmartThings or Wink hub.

  • If all else fails, you can usually count on If This Then That (IFTTT) to help fill the compatibility gaps. There is even an official Alexa IFTTT channel.

  • The next step, of course, is to follow the device installation instructions before asking Alexa to find out. You may need to download a companion app to the Smartphone.

  • Obviously, make sure that all devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Echo.

Alexa doesn't understand me

"I'm sorry, I don't understand the question" can sometimes be Alexa's most pronounced phrase and it can be very frustrating. Alexa's voice recognition naturally improves as she gets to know you, but there are ways to avoid repeating yourself.

  • Start by using the voice training tool. Go to Settings> Voice Training in the Alexa app and you will be asked to speak 25 preset phrases to help Alexa learn your lexicon.

  • Next, check out what Alexa really heard. The Alexa app keeps a record of all your requests, so you can see exactly what she understood.

  • Go to the application settings and click on History . Here you can identify poorly recognized words and perhaps express them more clearly.

 

Alexa does not connect to my Bluetooth devices

Amazon Echo supports the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP SNK) and the Audio / Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP).

  • The first step is to make sure your Bluetooth device has the required battery charge.

  • If you're still having issues, you can unplug and sync your Bluetooth devices again. Open the Alexa app and click Settings. Click on your Echo device, select Bluetooth and "Erase all paired devices".

  • To pair the devices, say “Pair“ to place the Echo in discovery mode. Then go to the Bluetooth settings on your device or application to pair, as usual. Alexa will then confirm the connection.
